Severe Thunderstorms yesterday afternoon
knocked the power out at my daughters house where I stay. I knew they were inbound and I was about to come here to my place to watch NASCAR practice for the Daytona FL race. I decided to move the truck closer to the house as it was under a couple white oak trees and I didn't want to get drenched when I left. I went back into the house to grab my cigs and I heard at least 6 huge trees topple and I knew the power was gonna go out. I went out to cover the patio furniture and when I came back in, the power was out. Since those trees were close to the road, I knew the power lines were down and the power would be out for some time. So I grabbed all my work clothes and headed here. My daughter showed up later after she figured out where I was. just went back today a few minutes ago and power still down. I can hear the workers back behind the house doing the line repairs
Now the good part. Went to work today, was about 15 minutes from clocking out. Grabbed a couple loafs of bread to slice them in our bread slicer.
First loaf up WHITE loaf. I was adjusting the loaf in the slicer and something went wrong, my hand was either at a weird angle or i misjudged the distance to blade and got my left hand middle finger and ring finger down into the saw blades. OUCH. Cuts are about 3/4 inch long, two slices on middle finger, one on ring finger.
My daughter came over from her store and took me to the Doc. 4 stitches on the middle finger and butterfly bandage on ring finger.
Anyways, I've never got injured on a job before. Of course, i HAD TO TAKE A DRUG TEST, no biggie I don't do drugs. The thing that surprised me is, you stay clocked in when you go to the Doc and return to the store if you can and clock out. WOW, got me almost 2hrs payroll for getting injured and of course they pay it all through workers comp. Even my follow up appt for stitch removal.
WHAT A CRAZY COUPLE DAYS!!

Glad to hear to hear you're ok! Who would've thought that your first at-work injury would occur in a bakery after 12 years in the army!!
So do you get some time off now?
